Abstract
BACKGROUND Baduanjin is an ancient technique of physical and breathing exercises (Dao Yin). This technique is divided into eight sections and each section is a motion, so it is called "Baduanjin". It is practice without equipment, simple and easy to learn, whose effect is significant leading to good fitness effect. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease. Clinical studies have reported that Baduanjin can affect the metabolism of blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic patients, but the reported efficacy is different among different studies. Therefore, the study is aimed to systematically evaluate the size and differences of the impact of Baduanjin on the metabolism of glucose and lipid in diabetic patients. METHODS Retrieved randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on effects of Baduanjin on glucose and lipid metabolism in diabetic patients from PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI with computer while mutually retrieved the same things from Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR), Google Academic and Baidu Academic. The retrieval time was from their establishment to October 2020. Then 2 researchers independently extracted relevant data and evaluated the quality of the included literatures, and meta-analysis was conducted on the included literatures using RevMan5.3. RESULTS This research used outcome indicators like fasting blood glucose, postprandial blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol content and triglyceride content to explore the effect of Baduanjin on glucose and lipid metabolism in diabetic patients specifically. CONCLUSION The research will provide reliable evidence-based proof for Baduanjin improving glucose and lipid metabolism of diabetic patients. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Private information from individuals will not be published. This systematic review also does not involve endangering participant rights. Ethical approval was not required. The results may be published in a peer-reviewed journal or disseminated at relevant conferences. OSF REGISTRATION NUMBER DOI 10.17605/ OSF.IO/AGJHQ.

PloS one. 2021;(5):e0251131
Abstract
BACKGROUND Idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) is one of the most common causes of nephrotic syndrome in adults involving multiple targets and factors. The effect of conservative nonimmunosuppressive or immunosuppressive therapies is unsatisfactory and with many side effects. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can regulate immune function and improve kidney function. PURPOSE To evaluate the total effective rate, curative rate, recurrence rate and adverse events of TCM alone or TCM as an adjunctive therapy for IMN. METHODS Randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing either TCM alone or the combination of TCM to western medicine (WM) therapies for patients with IMN were retrieved by searching English and Chinese database. Risk of bias summary was used to assess the methodological quality of eligible studies. Dichotomous data were presented using odds ratios (OR). The primary outcome measure was the total effective rate. Secondary outcomes included curative rate, recurrence rate and adverse events. RESULTS 29 RCTs involving 1883 participants met the inclusion criteria. There was no statistically significant difference between the therapy of TCM alone and WM on the total effective rates (OR: 2.00; 95% CI: 0.80-4.98; P = 0.14) and curative rate (OR: 1.66; 95%CI: 0.66-4.22; p = 0.28). However, compared to basic treatment or immunosuppressive therapies alone, results showed that TCM as an adjunctive therapy had beneficial effects on the total effective rate (OR: 2.59; 95% CI: 1.38-4.86; P = 0.003 and OR: 3.01; 95% CI: 2.25-4.04; P < 0.00001) and curative rate (OR: 3.01; 95%CI: 1.24-7.28; p = 0.01 and OR: 1.73; 95%CI: 1.10-2.71; p = 0.02). In addition, the combination of TCM treatment could reduce the recurrence rate (OR: 0.28; 95% CI: 0.12-0.68; P = 0.004) and adverse reactions (OR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.27-0.54; p < 0.00001). CONCLUSION The results indicate that TCM is well-tolerated for the treatment of IMN. However, there remains a need for large-scale and high-quality trials.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Correction of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), and parathyroid hormone (PTH) disorders is the standard of treatment in non-dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD), but the side effects and adverse reactions brought by western medicine (WM) are still the main problems. More importantly, the lack of protection of kidney function in the treatment greatly affects the health of patients. Although traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), specifically tonifying kidney and strengthen bone (TKSB) therapy is wildly applied for patients with CKD-MBD in China, the evidence of TKSB therapy in the treatment of CKD-MBD is limited. Thus, we pretent to conduct this protocol to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TKSB therapy combined with WM for non-dialysis patients with CKD-MBD. METHODS A system research of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of TKSB therapy for CKD-MBD will be conducted by 2 investigators from 7 electronic databases. Methodological quality evaluations will be performed by using the Cochrane collaboration tool and data analysis will be conducted by RevMan V5.3 software and STATA v15.0. RESULTS The results of this paper will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. CONCLUSION This research will determine the safety and efficacy of TKSB therapy in treating non-dialysis patients with CKD-MBD. INPLASY REGISTRATION NUMBER INPLASY2020120086.

The American journal of Chinese medicine. 2021;(7):1623-1643
Abstract
Biochanin A (BCA) is a dietary isoflavone, isolated from the leaves and stems of Trifolium pratense L and many other herbs of Chinese medicine. Recent findings indicated BCA as a promising drug candidate with diverse bioactive effects. On the purpose of evaluating the possibility of BCA in clinical application, this review is trying to provide a comprehensive summary of the pharmacological actions of BCA. The publications collected from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Wiley databases were summarized for the last 10 years. Then, the potential therapeutic use of BCA on the treatment of various diseases was discussed according to its pharmacological properties, namely, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, and anti-obesity effects as well as neuroprotective, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, and osteoprotective effects. BCA might mainly regulate the MAPK, PI3K, NRF2, and NF-kB pathways, respectively, to exert its bioactive effects. However, the limited definitive targets, poor biological availability, and insufficient safety evaluation might block the clinical application of BCA. This review may provide new insights for the development of BCA in the application of related diseases.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese Medicine Constitution (TCMC) divides human beings into balanced (ping-he) constitution (PH) and unbalanced constitution. Yang-deficiency (yang-xu) constitution (YAX) is one of the most common unbalanced constitutions in Chinese general population, and it causes susceptibility to particular diseases. However, unbalanced constitutions can be regulated by Chinese medicine and lifestyle intervention in clinical practice. Gui-fu-di-huang-wan (GFDHW) is a well-known Chinese medicine with yang-invigorating activity and is regarded as improving YAX. In this study, 60 healthy YAX students selected from a prospective population of 5185 were enrolled in a randomized clinical trial and completed the study. We compared the gut microbiota and urinary metabolome between individuals with PH and those with YAX before and after one-month-intervention. Compared with the control group, the health status of the intervention group improved significantly, the YAX symptom score was reduced, and the efficacy remained high at the one-year follow-up. The gut microbiota of the healthy PH exhibited greater diversity, and significantly higher species were identified. Compared to PH group, YAX individuals showed increased abundance of Bacteroidetes and Bacteroides, also had higher levels of gut microbial-derived urinary metabolites. After one-month-intervention, both GFDHW treatment and lifestyle intervention enriched the diversity and modulated the structure in YAX. The intervention group also partially restored the microbiome and metabolome to healthy PH-like levels. Further, a microbiota co-occurrence network analysis showed that the metabolites enriched in YAX were correlated with microbial community structure. Taken together, our results suggest that Chinese medicine combined with lifestyle intervention benefits YAX individuals. Gut microbiota/metabolite crosstalk might be involved in the Chinese medicine-mediated effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The combination of Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine (TCM+WM) has been widely used in the treatment of glomerulosclerosis, but the results are still controversial. This study will assess the clinical efficacy of TCM+WM for glomerulosclerosis and provide evidence-based medical data via meta-analysis. METHOD The MEDLINE, EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, and multiple Chinese databases (Wan Fang, CNKI, and VIP) were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) that compared the effects of WM and TCM+WM. Review Manager 5.3 software was used for the meta-analysis of selected studies, and appropriate tests were performed to determine the quality, heterogeneity and sensitivity of these studies. RESULTS Sixteen RCTs met the inclusion criteria and were selected for the analysis. Compared with the placebo or WM-treated glomerulosclerosis patients, TCM+WM intervention significantly improved renal function indices including 24-hour urine protein quantity (24 h U-Pro), serum creatinine (Scr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine clearance (Ccr). In addition, the serum albumin (ALB), triglyceride (TG), and cholesterol (CHOL) levels were also significantly improved (P < .05) in patients receiving the combination therapy. Finally, the combination of TCM+WM reduced the indices of glomerulosclerosis more effectively compared with WM alone. CONCLUSION The combination of TCM+WM can significantly improve the renal function and prognosis of patients with glomerulosclerosis.

The American journal of Chinese medicine. 2021;(4):805-828
Abstract
Based on the study and research on the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer, the types and functions of gut microbiota, and its role in guiding and regulating the occurrence and development of diseases, we have explored the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of colorectal cancer by regulating the gut microbiota. Genetic variation, abnormal responses of innate and adaptive immunity, mucosal barrier dysfunction, imbalance of intestinal microbial colonization, personal and environmental risk factors are the main pathogenesis of colorectal cancer. The gut microbiota mainly includes Sclerotium (including Clostridium, Enterococcus, Lactobacillus and Ruminococcus) and Bacteroides (including Bacteroides and Prevotella), which have biological antagonism, nutrition for the organism, metabolic abilities, immune stimulation, and ability to shape cancer genes functions to body. The gut microbiota can be related to the health of the host. Current studies have shown that Chinese herbal compound, single medicinal materials, and monomer components can treat colorectal cancer by regulating the gut microbiota, such as Xiaoyaosan can increase the abundance of Bacteroides, Lactobacillus, and Proteus and decrease the abundance of Desulfovibrio and Rickerella. Therefore, studying the regulation and mechanism of gut microbiota on colorectal cancer is of great benefit to disease treatment.
